How to Save
Money on Gas

While many people have
started walking, biking, carpooling or riding the bus, not all of us can
do those things. But, there are some things that we can change to save
money on gas.
Become a one car family. If it's possible, having only one car will save
money on gas.
Park in the first spot you find. It uses more gas to slowly drive
through parking lots, braking and giving it the gas, than if you just
pull in and park. And not only will you save money on gas, walking is
good for you!
Check the air pressure in the tires every week. Buy an air pump and an
accurate tire gauge. Properly inflated tires will save money on gas.
Remove unnecessary items from your car. If your car is lighter, it will
use less gas - saving you money.
Bike and ski racks create drag, save money on gas by removing them and
using less fuel.
Combining trips will save money on gas. Make a list. Run all your
errands in one trip. Some of your stops may be near each other. Park
between them and walk.
Avoid drive through windows. Sitting at an idle, your car gets 0 miles
per gallon.
Stay well away from store fronts where you will need to wait for
pedestrians and other vehicles. Remember, idleing gets you 0 miles per
gallon. Save money on gas by staying away from the storefront.
If you are always stuck in rush hour traffic after work, try to find
something to do near your work until the traffic dies down, rather than
driving in stop/go/idle traffic. |
